The Problem with ‘New SEO’

While the recent changes announced in Google’s most recent ‘Penguin’ update sound great for end users – an increased focus on content – and for social media marketers – an increased focus on discovery.  A problem which appears to be continuously overlooked is the legacy authority built up by sites which don’t adhere to the new playbook.

Page Rank authority which has been built up over the last several years is still inherent in sites which essentially no longer deserve it. From the experience of search engineers I’ve worked with, such sites hold this authority for far longer than they should diluting the effect of progressive updates.
